Biography

Emily Sack is a Professor of Law at Roger Williams University School of Law, specializing in Domestic Violence Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Juvenile Justice, and Children's Law, as well as the Death Penalty. She is a co-author of the law school casebook, 'Domestic Violence Law: Theory and Practice' (Foundation Press, 3rd ed., 2013), and has published several articles in the field of domestic violence. Previously, she practiced as a criminal defense attorney and served as the Deputy Director of the Center for Court Innovation in New York, where she developed and implemented domestic violence courts and felony domestic violence courts across the country. Her work also included assessing and improving responses to domestic violence in various jurisdictions including Louisville, Kentucky, Anchorage, Alaska, Portland, Maine, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Additionally, she has worked as a Research Consultant for the Urban Institute, a criminal justice research organization based in Washington, D.C. Professor Sack holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1991, and multiple degrees from Columbia University, as well as a B.A. from Swarthmore College with high honors.
