Biography

Emily Schkeryantz is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, focusing on the connection between meaningful and decent work and the role of healthy communities, particularly through coalition building among labor unions and community-based organizations aimed at social change. She utilizes concepts from bargaining for the common good and union democracy, emphasizing workplaces as sites for civic and community engagement. Emily received her master’s degree in conflict resolution from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2016, and she has participated in the Summer Institute in Conflict Transformation at FLACSO Ecuador. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology, International Relations, and French from the University of Southern Indiana in 2012. Before her studies at UW–Madison, she worked as an organizer for the United Auto Workers. Currently, Emily serves on the board of trustees for the Cambridge Women’s Center and co-chairs the Immigrant Justice Interest Group within the Society for Community Research and Action.
