Dr. Emily Sparvero

Biography

Emily Sparvero received her B.A. in Economics from Duke University, followed by an M.S.Ed. and a Ph.D. in Sport Management from the University of Texas at Austin. She joined the faculty of the University of Texas after three years as an Assistant Professor in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University and two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University. Sparvero has worked with athletic departments at the University of Texas and Duke University, as well as the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Additionally, she has collaborated with convention and visitors bureaus and event organizers to analyze the economic impact of mass participant and spectator events. She has provided expert commentary for various national and local media outlets, including CNBC, USA Today, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Sparvero focuses on developing sport policies and exploring how professional sports teams can create economic, social, and tourism benefits for host communities.
