Biography

Dr. Emily Swindle is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton, UK. She obtained her PhD in Immunopharmacology from the University of Liverpool in 2003 under the supervision of Dr. John Coleman, studying the mechanisms of IgE-mediated mast cell activation. She then moved to the USA to undertake a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, working with Dr. Dean Metcalfe to expand her studies into mast cell responses and allergic asthma. Upon returning to the UK, she has focused her research on respiratory diseases, particularly the interaction of mast cells with bronchial epithelial cells during viral-induced exacerbations of asthma. In 2010, she was awarded a career track fellowship to investigate these interactions using novel microphysiological systems. Dr. Swindle has been a member of the Pharmacology teaching team since 2013, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, while also contributing to academic assessment and development of courses.
