Biography

Emily Swisher-Rosa is an Assistant Professor at Boston University, specializing in women’s health with a focus on breastfeeding medicine. After earning her undergraduate degree in Latin American Social and Cultural Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2005, she pursued a Master of Science in Nursing from Boston College, graduating in 2012. Emily has dedicated five years to serving in the OB/GYN outpatient department at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, where she provided comprehensive gynecological and obstetrical care primarily to women from Latin America. She has a long-standing interest in lactation support and is involved with New England Mothers, a breastfeeding medicine practice she co-founded. She also co-founded the Breastfeeding Equity Center at Boston Medical Center in 2021, focusing on improving breastfeeding outcomes through evidence-based practices and advocacy. In addition to her clinical work, she teaches residents and co-directs a breastfeeding medicine elective for fourth-year medical students. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Emily values diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare, especially for immigrant populations. Outside of academia, she enjoys family life in Boston with her husband and their four sons, alongside her passion for music.
