Biography

Emma Bailey earned her BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience from the University of Aberdeen and completed her PhD in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, where she specialized in the etiology of subcortical small vessel stroke and vascular dementia. Her research focused on highlighting the dysfunction of the blood-brain barrier as a contributing factor to stroke, while also assessing the relevance of available experimental models in clinical conditions affecting the subcortical brain. This foundational knowledge was further enhanced through her work in cardiovascular research during a British Heart Foundation program grant at Imperial College London. As a Research Associate in the Department of Bioengineering, she collaborated with aeronautical engineers to investigate how the shear stress exerted by blood on vessel walls influences the spatial development of atherosclerosis in large artery networks.
