Dr. Emma Bond

Biography

Emma Bond is a Professor of Italian and Comparative Studies at the University of Oxford, where she has been a faculty member since 2022. She holds a Tutorial Fellowship at St Hugh's College and has previously held lecturer positions at New College and Oriel College. Bond's academic journey includes postdoctoral studies at the universities of Edinburgh and Oxford, and teaching roles at the University of St Andrews from 2013 to 2022. Her research focuses on themes of migration, transnational studies, and the cultural impact of Italian literature and media. Among her notable publications are the monographs 'Disrupted Narratives: Illness, Silence, Identity in Svevo' (2012) and 'Writing Migration Through the Body' (2018), which explore the connections between the body and migration narratives in contemporary Italian contexts. She has also co-edited several volumes on Italian culture and migration studies, as well as serving as an editor for academic journals in her field. Bond's research has received significant support from organizations such as the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust, and she has held fellowships at prestigious institutions including the British School at Rome. In 2019, she was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Languages and Literatures. Currently, she leads an AHRC Research Grant project aimed at reexamining early Italian colonialism.
