Professor Dr. Emma Ellesen

Biography

Emma Christine Ellesen is a PhD Fellow at Aalborg University in the Department of Health Science and Technology, specializing in active health. Her research focuses on collaborating with elderly men from refugee and migrant backgrounds to identify their needs and opportunities for healthy, active aging. Utilizing action research methodologies, she engages in planning, acting, observing, and reflecting to develop health-promoting physical activities. Her work is guided by principles of democratic involvement, empowerment, and the sustainable development of locally anchored health initiatives. Additionally, she is interested in the intersectionality of health, emphasizing the significance of health norms and opportunities for participation in physical activities. As an educator, she supervises third-semester sports science students in qualitative project designs related to sports topics and teaches a course on Identity, Culture, Lifestyle, and Sports.
