Biography

Emma Francis is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick specializing in Victorian studies with a focus on 19th-century poetry. Her research explores the dynamic relations between social, cultural, religious, scientific, and political contexts of the day. A significant part of her work is situated at the intersection of Victorian studies and feminist thought, particularly in 19th-century British women's poetry, where she examines poets such as Amy Levy, Letitia Landon, and Emily Brontë. Her current projects include a study of the Bloomsbury and East End intellectual traffic from 1880 to 1920 and an exploration of psychoanalysis in the Victorian context. Emma also has extensive teaching commitments at both undergraduate and Master's levels, supervising dissertations in areas related to 19th-century literature, culture, gender, sexuality, and bodily experience. Additionally, she is interested in projects that engage with psychoanalysis and the arts, often welcoming co-supervision opportunities to enrich the doctoral research experience.
