Biography

Emma Frejinger is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the Université de Montréal, a member of CIRRELT, and holds the CN Chair in Optimization of Railway Operations. She obtained her PhD in Mathematics from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Her expertise focuses on both demand prediction and optimization in transport networks. Specifically, her main works are related to optimizing railway operations, combining operational research methodologies and data science. She has received several international awards, including twice the prestigious award for best doctoral thesis from the INFORMS Transportation Science Logistics Society. Emma has conducted numerous projects in collaboration with public and private organizations, some of which have been awarded. In 2017, she was awarded the Grand Prix d'Excellence in Transport by the Quebec Transport Association for a collaborative project that she led with CargoM and CIRRELT. Emma supervises graduate theses and teaches courses related to machine learning and computer science.
