Biography

Emma Jackson is a PhD candidate specializing in Cell Engineering at the University of Glasgow, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the lifETIME centre for doctoral training on engineered tissues for discovery, industry, and medicine. Her research focuses on utilizing external magnetic fields and magnetic hydrogels to accelerate osteogenesis in bone tissue engineering. Emma has valuable experience gained during a visiting researcher position at the Centre for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de València, where she continued her biomaterials research. In her undergraduate studies, she received a First-Class BSc in Anatomy from the University of Glasgow, where she was awarded the William Hunter Medal for her honors project investigating the role of NCX1.1 palmitoylation in cardiac contractile function during ischemia reperfusion injury under Professor Fuller's supervision. Emma also holds an Associate Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and has several years of experience teaching in dissection and prosection labs in the Anatomy facility at her university.
