Emma MacPherson studied natural sciences for her undergraduate degree at Cambridge University, obtaining an MSci in Physics with a specialization in semiconductor physics. She began her PhD in the Semiconductor Physics Group at Cambridge University in collaboration with TeraView Ltd, focusing on understanding the contrast mechanisms in terahertz images for skin cancer detection. After completing her thesis in 2005, she worked as a Medical Scientist at TeraView Ltd and later moved to Hong Kong in 2006. At the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), she established a terahertz laboratory and served as an Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2009. She then spent three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) before returning to CUHK. In September 2012, she resumed her role at CUHK and has actively contributed to the International Organizing Committee of the Infrared Millimeter Wave Terahertz Wave (IRMMW-THz) conference series, serving as General Conference Chair in 2015. In October 2017, she joined the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick in the UK. Emma was promoted to Professor in 2021 and received the Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award for her contributions to the field. Her research interests encompass the development of terahertz devices and instrumentation, in vivo terahertz imaging, and algorithm development for characterization.
Includes General, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Biomedical, and Manufacturing Engineering. Most programs fall under English Band A.
