Biography

Emma Parsons is a Research Assistant specializing in Mental Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. She completed her MSci in Biochemistry with an Industrial Placement at the University of Aberdeen in 2019. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Precision Medicine at the University of Glasgow, expected to complete in 2024, under the guidance of Professor Joanne Edwards. Emma has been recognized with the School of Cancer Sciences Accomplishment in Academic Post-Graduate Research Training Prize and has actively contributed to the Glasgow Colorectal Patient Public Involvement Engagement (PPIE) Group, working to ensure that patient interests are prioritized in colorectal cancer research. Her research focuses on the role of socioeconomic deprivation in adenoma and bowel cancer risk and bowel surveillance colonoscopy. Emma is also involved in teaching MSc courses in Cancer Research and Precision Oncology, and she supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has received the Student Partnership Impact Award from the Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA) in 2023 and earned the Recognising Excellence Teaching Associate Fellowship (RET AF) in 2024. Emma is a member of the British Association Cancer Research (BACR) and the European Association Cancer Research (EACR), reflecting her commitment to continued professional development in her field.
