Emma Sierecki is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the School of Biomedical Sciences. She obtained her PhD from the School of Pharmacy of Universite Rene Descartes in Paris, France, focusing on medicinal chemistry. After her PhD, she undertook postdoctoral training in the Pharmacology Department at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), where she developed skills in biochemistry and cell biology, with a focus on understanding drug targets. Upon moving to Australia, she joined the Institute for Molecular Biology at the University of Queensland (UQ), where she became interested in protein-protein interactions and developed platform assays to interrogate these interactions. Since joining UNSW in 2015, her research group has focused on protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly in relation to transcription factors and their roles in such pathologies. Her main research axes involve studying processes of protein aggregation and the development of diagnostic tests for Parkinson's disease, investigating how specific protein interactions serve as hubs in cellular pathways.
