Emmanuel Adu-Ampong is an Associate Professor in the Cultural Geography group at Wageningen University. He is a post-disciplinary researcher with roots in sociology, social work, geography, development studies, international relations, and urban studies and planning. Adu-Ampong serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Tourism Planning Development journal and is a Senior Research Associate at the School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He is currently leading a project funded by the European Research Council, titled 'Frictions of Space: Generative Tensions in Slavery, Colonial Heritage, and Tourism' (2025-2030). He was also the Principal Investigator for a project funded by the Dutch Research Council, which examined the embodied absence of the past in the context of slavery, heritage, and tourism in the Ghana-Suriname-Netherlands triangle. Throughout his career, Adu-Ampong has held lectureships at several universities, where he continues to contribute to the study of cultural geography and tourism management.
