Biography

Emmanuel Nikiema is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto. He completed his PhD in Linguistics at Université du Québec à Montréal in 1992 and joined the University of Toronto in 1994 after a two-year research fellowship at Laval University. Nikiema has served as a visiting scholar and invited professor at several institutions, including the University of Chicago and CNRS in France, as well as Chonbuk National University in South Korea. His current research focuses on syllabic representations in the phonology of Creole languages. Nikiema has published extensively, including a monograph on French phonology and morphology, as well as articles in major linguistic journals such as Lingua and the Journal of Pidgin and Creole Languages. He is currently an Associate Editor for Mosaic, a refereed journal for language teachers, and serves on the editorial boards of numerous linguistic journals. His teaching and research interests include linguistic theory, phonology, morphology, and the study of Creole, Romance, and African languages.
