Emmanuel is a multidisciplinary environment and social development researcher with a personal professional passion for sustainable development research and practice in Africa. His research interests focus on studying governance, policy, and institutional aspects of disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and resilience, as well as community-led development in low-income urban centres in Africa. Emmanuel explores innovative participatory processes for policy formulation and implementation. He has significant in-country research and advisory experience across several African countries including Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Gambia, where he works closely with community groups, research institutions, and policymakers to find collaborative learning opportunities in urbanization and sustainable development processes. Emmanuel regularly provides technical inputs for sustainable development policy formulation and implementation, including his roles as Technical Advisor (Social Vulnerability) for the World Bank GFDRR's Multi-Hazard Open Vulnerability Platform Evaluating Risk project in Tanzania, contributing author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report, and serving as a member of the African Union Development Agency's Expert Working Group on Climate Resilience Adaptation.
