Emmanuel Rey earned his architecture degree from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 1997. He later obtained a European postgraduate diploma in architecture and sustainable development in 1999 through a joint program with EPFL, Université catholique de Louvain, and ENSA Toulouse. Rey completed his Ph.D. at Université catholique de Louvain in 2006, receiving the European Gustave Magnel Prize in 2009 for the quality of his thesis. He began working at the architectural urban design firm Bauart in 2000, where he became a partner in 2004. Since 2010, he has been a professor at the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering at EPFL, founding the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST). His research focuses on sustainable architecture, emphasizing the integration of sustainability principles in urban design and construction processes.
