Biography

En-Hui Yang is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo and the founding Director of the Leitch-University of Waterloo Multimedia Communications Lab. He is a co-founder of SlipStream Data Inc., which is now a subsidiary of BlackBerry Inc. Yang has served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. His extensive research contributions have earned him the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Information Theory and Multimedia Data Compression. Yang is known for co-developing the Yang-Kieffer algorithm and various efficient coding technologies used in image and video applications, improving compression in products utilized by millions globally. His research interests encompass Multimedia Compression, Information Theory, Digital Communications, Image and Video Coding, Big Data Analytics, and Information Security. He aims to develop technologies that enhance data storage and transmission reliability.
