Biography

Enda Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). With 18 years of applied research consultancy experience, he specializes in employing numerical and physical modeling techniques to address challenges in coastal engineering and coastal zone management. His research and teaching interests revolve around enhancing the understanding of sustainable management practices related to coastal hazard risks by utilizing trans-disciplinary and holistic system approaches as well as nature-based solutions. Before joining UBC, he served as a senior research engineer at the Ocean, Coastal, and River Engineering Research Centre of the National Research Council Canada. Enda earned his Doctorate from the University of Ottawa and holds an undergraduate degree in civil and environmental engineering from University College Cork, along with a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His extensive career in coastal zone management has provided him with the practical insights necessary for impactful teaching and research.
