Biography

Enda Murphy is an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). With 18 years of applied research consultancy experience, he focuses on numerical and physical modeling techniques to address coastal engineering and coastal zone management challenges. His research and teaching interests revolve around improving understanding of sustainable management of coastal hazard risk, employing trans-disciplinary and whole systems approaches, and advocating for nature-based solutions. Previously, he served as a senior research engineer at the National Research Council Canada’s Ocean, Coastal, and River Engineering Research Centre. He completed his Doctorate in Engineering at the University of Ottawa and holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from University College Cork and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, respectively. Dr. Murphy has been involved in the coastal zone management industry since graduation and continues to contribute to the field through research and education.
