Biography

Enrique del Castillo is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State University. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Electrical Engineering from the National University of Mexico/U. Panamericana (1986), a Master of Engineering in Operations Research from Cornell University (1988), and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Statistics from Arizona State University (1992). His research includes process optimization, experimental design, time series analysis and control, Bayesian statistics, and statistical learning theory, with a focus on utilizing statistical methodology to tackle challenges in engineering metrology and machine learning. Over his career, Castillo has authored 120 refereed papers and two textbooks. He has also served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Quality Technology and currently holds associate editor positions for Technometrics and the Institute of Industrial Engineers Transactions. His contributions have been recognized with various honors, including being a Fulbright Scholar in 2019 and receiving multiple research grants. Castillo has held visiting professorships in several international institutions and has vast collaboration experience across disciplines, including biology and evolutionary theory.
