Biography

Enrique J. Lavernia is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at Texas A&M University. He holds the M. Katherine Banks Chair and is a joint faculty member in Mechanical Engineering. Lavernia is a recognized member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. His extensive educational background includes a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering and a Master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, complemented by an undergraduate honors degree in Solid Mechanics from Brown University. His research is focused on the synthesis behavior of nanostructured multi-scale materials, with particular emphasis on processing fundamentals and their physical behavior. Lavernia's contributions to the field have been acknowledged through multiple awards, including the TMS Bruce Chalmers Award and the Acta Materialia Gold Medal Award. He has also received prestigious recognition from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the National Engineers’ Council.
