Biography

Dr. Éric Cohen is a leading figure in the study of HIV-host interactions, focusing on the mechanisms regulating HIV replication and persistence. As the Director of the Human Retrovirology unit at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) and a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Infectiology, and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, Dr. Cohen's research has significantly contributed to the understanding of HIV pathogenesis and the development of potential therapeutic strategies. He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from McGill University and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Université de Montréal. His postdoctoral training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute under Dr. William Haseltine greatly bolstered his expertise in HIV research. Dr. Cohen leads the Canadian HIV Cure Enterprise (CanCURE), which aims to explore HIV persistence mechanisms and develop effective therapeutic strategies for HIV cure. He is well-published with over 135 manuscripts and books and has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to HIV research, including the Marcel-Piché Prize and the Pierre-Bois Prize. Dr. Cohen is also actively involved in numerous scientific committees and has been a significant member of the Canadian and Quebec scientific communities in the field of HIV/AIDS research.
