Eric Dumont received his PhD in Pharmacodynamics Biochemistry from the University of Montreal in 1999. He was a postdoctoral trainee at Université Laval from 1999 to 2001, where he studied neurobiology, stress, and anxiety under the supervision of Drs. Guy Drolet and Denis Paré. He completed a postdoctoral position at the Vollum Institute in Portland, Oregon, USA, where he researched drug abuse-induced synaptic adaptations in collaboration with Dr. John T. Williams. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen's University. Dr. Dumont's research program is focused on elucidating the neural mechanisms underlying compulsive behaviors. His laboratory employs a multifaceted systems biological approach to consider the critical causal factors at molecular, cellular, systems, and behavioral levels. In particular, he aims to understand the neurophysiological mechanisms governing mammalian behaviors, with an emphasis on resolving adaptive conflicts that arise in response to threats and negative consequences, which are prevalent in numerous human mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
