Dr. Eric Eaton

Biography

Eric Eaton is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is a member of the GRASP (General Robotics Automation, Sensing, Perception) lab. His primary research interests lie in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data mining applications in robotics, with a focus on search and rescue operations, environmental sustainability, and medicine. Specifically, his work develops versatile AI systems that learn multiple tasks throughout their lifetime in complex environments and enables rapid knowledge transfer and the acquisition of new abilities through effective human-agent collaboration. Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania, Eric was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the computer science department at Bryn Mawr College and spent years as a senior research scientist at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, leading numerous machine learning projects. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning, specifically developing methods for selective knowledge transfer across tasks.
