Dr. Eric Gander

Biography

Eric M. Gander is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Baruch College, CUNY. He earned his B.A. in Economics and an M.A. in Rhetoric Communication Studies from the University of Virginia, followed by a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Northwestern University. His research critiques public argument, debate, and the intersection of politics, law, and science, seeking to clarify the discourse around vital issues in the public realm. Gander's notable works include 'Minds: Evolutionary Psychology Reshaping Nature versus Nurture Debate', published by Johns Hopkins University Press, and 'Conceptual Revolution: Critique of Richard Rorty’s Political Philosophy', published by SUNY Press. He has authored numerous articles, book reviews, and convention papers, with his work appearing in both academic and popular press outlets. Gander is also known for his appearances as a commentator on television talk shows discussing political and social issues. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focused on Persuasion, Argumentation and Debate, and Communication Law and Free Speech.
