Biography

Eric Helleiner is a Professor and University Research Chair in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo, as well as the Balsillie School of International Affairs. He specializes in international political economy and has authored seven sole-authored books and six co-edited volumes, contributing over one hundred articles and chapters to the field. His notable recent works include "Contested World Economy: Deep Global Roots International Political Economy" (Cambridge, 2023) and "Neomercantilists: Global Intellectual History" (Cornell, 2021). Helleiner has received numerous accolades, such as the 2020 IPE Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Studies Association and the International Political Economy Book Award. In his role, he also co-edits a book series, Cornell Studies in Money, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His academic journey includes a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the London School of Economics. Throughout his career, Helleiner has focused on topics like globalization, the political economy of money and finance, and environmental implications of economic policies.
