Eric Heller is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University, joining the physics faculty in 1993 and becoming a member of the CCB faculty in 2009. He received his PhD in Chemical Physics from Harvard and is known for his research in time-dependent semiclassical quantum mechanics, focusing on electron flow in molecules and devices, as well as tunneling in complex systems. His work includes imaging electrons in materials such as graphene and semiconductors, where he explores classical-quantum correspondence in nonlinear dynamical systems. Heller has a keen interest in wave phenomena and has extended his research to acoustics and oceanography. He teaches a Harvard General Education course, “Why Hear Hear,” which covers acoustics and psychoacoustics for non-scientists, and published a textbook on the subject with Princeton University Press in 2013. Heller is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
