Dr. Eric Höweler

Biography

Eric Höweler is a Professor of Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he teaches lecture courses and design studios that focus on building technologies and integration. His advanced design studios bring together students from disciplines such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and urban planning, covering topics such as housing, urban architecture, climate adaptability, and transit-oriented development. He has coordinated the Semester Core Design Studio in Architecture, working to integrate environmental and structural systems into the curriculum. He also teaches a required lecture course in Building Technology titled Cases Contemporary Construction, emphasizing advanced topics in construction building systems. In addition to his academic role, Höweler is a co-founding Principal of Höweler + Yoon, a multidisciplinary design studio known for its innovative approaches combining architecture, art, and media. The studio has produced celebrated works like the MIT Collier Memorial and various other acclaimed architectural projects. Höweler has been involved in teaching and research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and previously worked as a Senior Designer at notable firms. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture from Cornell University. His research interests lie in Construction & Building Systems, Public Art & Exhibition Design, and Responsive Environments.
