Biography

Eric Howell studies the synergy between Gravitational Wave transients and Gamma-ray Bursts. His work involves combining data from Gravitational Wave and electromagnetic domains to determine the causes of cataclysmic astrophysical events that have occurred throughout history. He is a member of the science team for NASA's Moon Burst Energetics All-sky Monitor (MoonBEAM) and the NASA StarBurst (multimessenger pioneer) satellite missions expected to launch in the coming decade. Eric has played a key role in initializing the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA targeted search for gravitational waves associated with Fast Radio Bursts and co-led a search in 2019. He held an Australian Research Council DECRA fellowship until 2023 in astrophysics and has been a member of LIGO since 2005.
