Biography

Eric Lybeck is a historical sociologist focusing on the synthesis of American neopragmatism and processual sociology, as well as Scottish civics and Italian social generativity. He seeks to map societal changes through practices that promote generative civic action, particularly in the context of creative placemaking. Lybeck founded the open-access journal Civic Sociology in 2018. His doctoral research at the University of Cambridge examined the historical development of social and legal sciences in the late 19th century. He has published two books, "University Revolution: Outline Processual Theory Modern Higher Education" (2021) and "Norbert Elias and Sociology of Education" (2019), contributing to the discourse on higher education's evolution. He is keen to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects and welcomes inquiries from prospective postgraduate students interested in civic education, sociological theory, and public policy.
