Biography

Eric Mathison is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Toronto, an MA in Philosophy also from the University of Toronto, and a BA (Honours) in Philosophy from the University of Calgary. Before joining the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC), Eric worked as a clinical ethicist at Alberta Health Services, where he assisted healthcare providers in addressing ethical questions that arose in patient care. His policy work has focused on pandemic-related ethics, particularly concerning mandatory vaccination policies and the fair distribution of scarce resources. Eric's research interests lie in applied ethics, with a special focus on bioethics and normative ethics. His scholarly output includes forthcoming chapters and articles on well-being, medical ethics, and the ethical implications surrounding physician-assisted death. He has previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.
