Dr. Eric Mckee

Biography

Eric McKee teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Theory. He holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in violin performance from West Virginia University, and an MA and PhD in music theory from the University of Michigan. His research interests include the relations between dance and music, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries, topic theory, and film music. His books include 'Decorum Minuet, Delirium Waltz: Study of Dance-Music Relations in 3/4 Time' (2011) and 'Sight Singing Complete' (co-author, 2015). He has published articles in 'Music Analysis', 'Music Theory Spectrum', 'Theory and Practice', and the 'College Music Symposium', as well as book chapters in 'Chopin World' (2017), 'Oxford Handbook of Topic Theory' (2014), and 'The Age of Chopin' (2004). In 2020, he received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Center for Pedagogy in the Arts and Design, and he served as the Faculty Teaching Fellow for Sustainability. McKee was the Program Chair for the Society of Music Theory National Conference in 2014 and a Faculty Scholar at the Humanities Institute at Penn State.
