Eric M. Morrow is the Mencoff Family Professor in Biology at Brown University. He holds a PhD in genetics and neurodevelopment from Harvard University and an MD from the Health Science Training Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on the normal molecular mechanisms of brain development and genetic perturbations that underlie disorders of human cognitive development, such as autism and intellectual disability. His laboratory investigates the mechanisms of neuronal organelles, including endosomes, lysosomes, and mitochondria, in relation to neurometabolism. Dr. Morrow's team is particularly focused on novel human neurogenetic syndromes, with recent studies investigating conditions like Christianson Syndrome and GPT2 Deficiency. This work has led to investigations of selective neuronal vulnerability to neurodegeneration and the development of molecular therapies for neurogenetic disorders. His research has received funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and the National Institute on Aging.
