Biography

Eric Neuscamman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He was born in 1984 and completed his bachelor's degrees in Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at UCLA in 2006. He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from Cornell University in 2011. Following his doctoral studies, Eric served as a Miller Research Fellow from 2011 to 2014 and as a Lawrence Fellow from 2014 to 2015. He joined UC Berkeley as an Assistant Professor in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Neuscamman's research focuses on developing new theoretical models and algorithms to predict the electronic structure of molecules and materials. His work particularly emphasizes methods that allow excited states to be treated on an equal footing with ground states, ensuring accuracy in complex systems. He addresses essential challenges in improving the predictive power of chemical and photochemical reaction mechanisms, molecular light harvesting, and materials with non-innocent d f orbitals.
