Biography

Eric Papas is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He has dedicated his career to research related to ocular surface and contact lenses. Notably, he served as the Executive Director of Research and Development at the Brien Holden Vision Institute. His contributions to the field include the invention of silicone hydrogels and the discovery of the link between limbal hyperemia and oxygen supply. He is an active member of the TFOS workshops on Dry Eye and Meibomian gland dysfunction, and has chaired the Management sub-committee. Throughout his career, he has published over 130 refereed articles and book chapters, and holds 12 patents. He also serves as an Associate Editor for Contact Lens & Anterior Eye and is a member of the Editorial Board for Optometry & Vision Science. He has received numerous accolades, including the British Contact Lens Association Medal and the Charles F. Prentice Medal from the American Academy of Optometry.
