Biography

Eric Patrick is an Associate Professor and Director of the MFA Documentary Media program at Northwestern University. His current work investigates the potential of animated ethnography, employing rotoscope techniques to create films like "Elevated Loop," which captures the essence of live-action motion from Chicago's El train. Another project, "Meridians," utilizes a 360º film format, blending live-action postcards with animated characters in otherwise vacant spaces. With over 30 years in creating short animated films and educational media, Eric brings a wealth of experience from both independent and commercial avenues. His accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship and recognition through numerous grants and awards from international film festivals and arts organizations. Eric's design contributions to the industry have been honored with Clio Awards, Peabody Awards, and Emmy nominations. His work has been widely screened in festivals and museums across the globe, including the Rotterdam Film Festival and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Notably, he was involved as an animator in the seminal Nickelodeon program “Blues Clues,” contributing to the evolving landscape of children’s media and animated documentaries.
