Biography

Eric Plutzer is a Professor of Political Science in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State University. He holds a Ph.D. from Washington University (1987) and serves as the Director of the Polling at the McCourtney Institute for Democracy. Plutzer completes his term as co-editor-in-chief of the journal Public Opinion Quarterly. His research specializes in voter turnout, civic engagement, and the dynamics of public opinion, particularly how it intertwines with religion, education, family, and work life. He is currently involved in a major project with Michael Berkman to understand the varying views of citizens on democracy, which has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the Russel Sage Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the John Templeton Foundation. Plutzer teaches courses on public opinion, political behavior, and statistical analysis of survey data.
