Eric Poisson is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph, where he has been a faculty member since 1995. He holds a B.Sc. in physics from Laval University (1987), an M.Sc. in theoretical physics from the University of Alberta (1989), and a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Alberta (1991). His research primarily focuses on Astrophysics, Gravitation, General Relativity, and the study of binary systems involving Neutron Stars and Black Holes. Poisson’s significant contributions to the field include studies related to gravitational waves, particularly the detection of waves produced by merging black holes, which led to a Nobel Prize in Physics in 2017. His ongoing research aims to leverage gravitational-wave astronomy to enhance understanding of fundamental processes in astrophysical objects. He is an Affiliate Member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and has served as President of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation from 2016 to 2019. Poisson is also a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 2008 and has contributed to various prestigious journals in the field as an Editorial Board member.
