Dr. Eric Reiter

Biography

Eric H. Reiter is a Professor in the History department at Concordia University. His research and teaching focus on the historical and comparative aspects of law in Quebec, Canada. He authored the book 'Wounded Feelings: Litigating Emotions in Quebec, 1870-1920,' published by the University of Toronto Press in 2019, which received the Canadian Historical Association Prize for Scholarly Book in 2020 and the Governor General's History Award for Scholarly Research in 2021. He is currently working on a new project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, focused on litigation involving fatal workplace accidents in nineteenth-century Quebec. Reiter is also the co-editor-in-chief of English manuscripts for the Canadian Journal of Law and Society and is a member of the Centre interuniversitaire d'études québécoises. He holds multiple degrees including a BA from Cornell University, an MA and PhD from the University of Toronto, and an LLB, BCL, LLM from McGill University. He has participated in various teaching activities, offering courses such as 'Rights and Freedoms in Canadian Society' and 'Law and Society in Canadian History.'
