Biography

Eric J. Schelter is the Hirschmann-Makineni Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Earth Environmental Sciences with a secondary appointment in Chemistry. He obtained his B.S. from Michigan Technological University in 1999 and completed his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in 2004 under the guidance of advisor Kim R. Dunbar. Following his doctoral studies, he became a Glenn T. Seaborg Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he served from 2004 to 2005. He continued his research at Los Alamos as a Director's Postdoctoral Fellow and Frederick Reines Postdoctoral Fellow until 2009. His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of inorganic organometallic complexes, employing advanced techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR, FTIR, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopies, alongside electrochemistry and magnetic susceptibility studies. He is currently dedicated to projects that explore the chemistries and electronic structure effects of lanthanides and uranium in combination with main group elements.
