Biography

Eric Schmaltz is a scholar, editor, poet, and intermedia artist focused on contemporary twentieth-century Canadian avant-garde literature and art. His research emphasizes intermedia practices, small press literary cultures, and sound studies. He completed his PhD in the English Department at York University in 2019 and has received a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He authors and edits various works, including books and articles featured in notable journals such as Canadian Literature, Jacket2, and Canadian Poetry. His creative practice, which includes full-length books, prints, chapbooks, and other formats, has been published and exhibited nationally and internationally across Canada, the United States, and Europe. He is currently involved with the Modern Language Association’s LLC Canadian forum and has served as a Writer-on-the-Grounds at Glendon College.
