Biography

After studies in France, Éric Thorin pursued two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Glasgow and the University of Vermont. He was recruited to the Department of Surgery at the University of Montreal by the Montreal Heart Institute in January 1996. In 2001, he took the lead in cardiovascular pharmacology at Actelion Pharmaceuticals in Switzerland before returning to the Montreal Heart Institute in 2002 to resume a research program focusing on cardiovascular aging, combining clinical and fundamental studies. In 2004, he was appointed associate director for fundamental research at the center. His research aims to understand the mechanisms associated with dysregulation of blood vessels that develop with age and prematurely in the presence of cardiovascular disease risk factors. He collaborates with researchers from Canada, Europe, and Japan, has published nearly 100 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters, and supervises many master's and doctoral students, all of whom occupy positions in the pharmaceutical industry and academia.
