Biography

Erica Abel is a clinical psychologist and informaticist at the Yale School of Medicine. She is the clinical psychologist for the Veterans Health Administration’s National Telemental Health Center’s Bipolar Disorder Telehealth (BDTH) program, where she provides psychological treatment to veterans with comorbid medical and mental health issues, particularly bipolar disorder. The BDTH team delivers services across multiple VHA sites in the United States. Utilizing her training in evidence-based practices, including Life Goals Collaborative Care and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she collaborates with health services researchers across various disciplines. Dr. Abel has worked on numerous projects at local, regional, and national levels to address specific operational and research questions. Her extensive experience in clinical practice and informatics allows her to bridge the gap between administrative data and researchers’ operational needs. Dr. Abel joined the VHA in 2010 after a career in investment banking and technology finance. She completed several postdoctoral fellowships at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, focusing on pain research, informatics, and multimorbidities.
