Biography

Erica Burman is a Professor in Education at the University of Manchester, UK, with a vast background in critical developmental psychology and feminist theory. Her research focuses on childhood studies, educational processes, and the impacts of social inequalities on children and families. Burman has published extensively, addressing subjects such as state violence against women and children, the representation of marginalized communities in educational contexts, and the intersectionality of culture, gender, and class in psycho-social practices. She co-founded the Discourse Unit, which is centered on the exploration of language and subjectivity in social research. Over her career, she has contributed to various action research projects that seek to innovate educational methods and improve community services, particularly for asylum seekers and those affected by domestic violence.
