Dr. Erica Mcalpine

Biography

Professor Erica McAlpine is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow at St Edmund Hall, specializing in English literature. Her research interests encompass the Romantic Period, American Literature, and contemporary poetry. She has published works such as 'Poet's Mistake' (Princeton, 2020), which examines the complexities of errors in poetry and how readers engage with these mistakes. A practicing poet, her latest collection, 'Small Pointed Things,' is available through Carcanet Press. Additionally, her earlier collection, 'Country Gambler,' was released by Shearsman Books in April 2016. McAlpine’s academic focus includes Romanticism, poetics, and the intersections of British and American contemporary poetry, alongside creative writing. She actively contributes to both scholarly discourse and contemporary poetic practice.
