Biography

Erica D. Pratt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. She received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and later earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University where she worked with Brian J. Kirby. Dr. Pratt's research focuses on the interface of engineering and chemical biology within oncology, specifically developing assays for cancer diagnosis and monitoring. She has co-designed the Geometrically Enhanced Differential Immunocapture (GEDI) platform for high-efficiency and high-purity microfluidic isolation of circulating tumor cells from whole blood samples. In addition to her academic endeavors, Dr. Pratt has completed multi-disciplinary postdoctoral training with Andrew D. Rhim and Laurie L. Parker, where she developed non-invasive assays for omic characterization of solid cancers. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and the Momental Foundation Unfettered Research Grant.
