Erica Robles-Anderson focuses on the role media technologies play in the production of space. In particular, she concentrates on configurations that enable a sense of public, collective, and shared experience, especially how they structure visibility and gaze. With a background as an experimental psychologist and cultural historian, she employs a range of methodologies to explore the definition of media-space. Currently, she is writing a book on the 20th century transformation of Protestant worship space into a highly mediated and spectacular form often characterized as 'mega-church' (under contract with Yale University Press). Prior to her current position, she was a Steinhardt Research Fellow in New Media Architecture, sharing an affiliation with the Department of Culture and Media and the Humanities and Technology Laboratory (HUMlab) at the University of Umeå in Sweden. Robles holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Stanford University. Her media studies courses train agile researchers to navigate the shifting media landscape and analyze media technology within cultural, social, and global contexts. One of her notable courses, 'Architecture and Media,' encourages students to examine how architectural spaces communicate meaning through social interactions.
