Biography

Erica Woodin is a professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria. She holds a PhD from Stony Brook University and specializes in clinical psychology. Her research interests include lifespan psychology, close relationships, intimate partner violence, substance use, and mental health prevention. Dr. Woodin examines the development of harmful relationship behaviors and understands the impact of various factors on partners, couples, and children. Her work has emphasized developing prevention programs to enhance couple and family functioning during periods of stress and transition, such as the transition to adulthood, cohabitation, and parenthood. Currently, she is leading a SSHRC-funded randomized control trial of a brief motivational intervention for at-risk couples transitioning to parenthood. In collaboration with Dr. Catherine Costigan, she is evaluating police integration within Assertive Community Treatment teams in Victoria, BC. Dr. Woodin supports diversity within the field of psychology and welcomes graduate applications from individuals in underrepresented groups.
